Project Runway | Season 8 Finale
I sure will miss Tim Gunn because after last night’s upset I’ve sworn off Project Runway forever. Gretchen won it all and I can’t think of anyone more undeserving than her. She was an absolute nightmare personality every week clamoring about how great she is and cutting down the other designers with back handed comments like, “I’m just glad the judges gave me another chance like they did for you guys.”
Can I understand the judges decision? A little bit. Gretchen’s clothes are cool, sure, but they’re not anything you couldn’t buy last season in an H&M. Without all of the styling- the hats, shoes, hair, makeup- her designs were entirely too simple to be worthy of winning the show. None of those pieces provoked a ‘wow’ response. They’re cute but they’re just clothes. It was like an Urban Outfitters runway show.
This whole season Mondo has been the clear front runner and last night was no exception. His collection was Designed, capital D. There were real ideas in each one of his pieces. The way they were cut, the mix of prints and textiles, his hair pieces, etc… this was a show. Heidi and Jessica Simpson (guest judge) both thought Mondo should be crowned the winner but stupid Nina Garcia went on and on about how if she had to sell one of the two collections it would be easier to sell Gretchen’s stuff. Um, what? Since when is Nina a buyer for JC Penny? You’re a fashion editor for christ sake. Did you see Peter Som’s spring 2011 collection?? There is obviously a customer base for this kind of fashion.
Less than a minute after the end of the episode I logged onto Twitter to see what the east coast was saying about the results. Like myself, everyone (except a handful of Gretchen fans) was outraged and swearing to never watch this bullshit show again. Lifetime TV lost about 500k viewers in 15 minutes. Major PR fail. I hope the executives over at Bravo are reading last night’s reviews and laughing.

I couldn’t have said it any clearer. This infuriates me. No words.
